Standards: US National Standards for Physical Education - SHAPE

Assessment: Ongoing assessment of skills, tactical awareness and performance


Physical Education is an essential and basic part of the total education program. It is a process that contributes to the total development of the student through physical activity and recognizes the physical, mental, emotional and social characteristics of each individual. The Physical Education program provides a variety of movement experiences to help all students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to fit actively in society.

In G6,studentswill learn todemonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activitiesas well as analyze and correct errors in movement patterns.

In G7,students will combine manipulative, locomotor, and nonlocomotor skills into movement patternsand demonstrate body management and object-manipulation skills needed for successful participation in individual and dual physical activities. This will help students to showbody management and object-manipulation skills needed for successful participation in introductory adventure/outdoor activities.

In G8,studentswilldemonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.


Health Education

Standards: US National Standards for Health Education

Assessment: Assessment of coursework and assignments.


Health education is an ongoing study and series of experiences which enable students to become healthy individuals. During this class, the students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention, demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health, promoting products and services, demonstrate the ability to practice health enhancing behaviors and reduce health related risks, analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health, demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health, and demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

From G7,students willanalyze the relationship between healthy behaviors and personal healthas well as examine how the family influences the health of adolescents. Students will alsoanalyze how the environment affects personal health.

In G8,Students will describe the influence of culture on health beliefs, practices and behaviorsas well as explainthe interrelationships of emotional, intellectual, physical, and social health in adolescence.Students will also examine the likelihood of injury or illness if engaging in unhealthy behaviors.
